Drawing on the popularity of the film HE NAMED ME MALALA and integrating its screening with discussions, #WISCOMP organized capacity building workshops for the students and faculty members of #ManavRachna International University (MRIU, Faridabad)
The gender lens becomes critical while taking informed decisions based on societal norms and practices, where gender empowerment is considered an end, but a means to achieve a society which is rooted in equality, equity and justice. The responsibility of an engendered society lies at all levels of interaction – individual; family; educational institutions, workplace and community, at large. Educational institutions provide background to create an inclusive society, which is strongly rooted in equality between girls and boys, and men and women.
How does one create a gender sensitive environment? What are the principles that guide us? Why is it critical for young adults at universities develop capacities to achieve these objectives? How does one ensure women and girls’ equal access to educational rights? These are some of the questions that WISCOMP’s gender equality and equity initiative‘The Medium is Message: Together Against the Violence of Gender Exclusion’ raised in its interventions with the students and faculty of MRIU spanning over 2 days. The aim was to create collaborative spaces to bring together diverse groups of stakeholders within educational spaces to collectively build cultures that respect women and girls’ equal access to educational rights.
Following the the workshop, Meenakshi Gopinath (Founder and Director, WISCOMP) was interviewed by the MRIU run community radio channel 107.8 Manav Rachna.
